As the rental car rolled to a stop on the dark road, her fear increased by the moment. She hadn't used her driver's license in almost ten years. Living in the city had made it rare to need a car at all. But tonight she needed to be strong. Her roommate had been clear: "If you so much as scratch it, I will murder you!". But she knew he didn't mean that. He trusted her. And she really needed his car in that moment. She slowly drove further into the night on the tiny countryside road. The map indicated that she was only four minutes away from her destination. And suddenly she saw it. A huge mansion with an imposing tall gate. She parked her roommate's car right in front and got out. She rang the doorbell and waited. A creepy voice in the intercom told her to come in, so she did. She left the car outside, not worried that anything would happen to it in such an isolated place. She entered the mansion and was greeted by a butler who invited her to sit in the living room. After a few minutes of waiting, Barry finally arrived. He was even more handsome than in his pictures, she was so relieved. She would have placed 50/50 odds on him being a catfish. It seemed so impossible, in this day and age, for a man to be so beautiful, so kind, and so rich. She felt her heart beat faster. He served her a drink and the night unfolded as you might expect. In the morning, after a luxurious breakfast, she said she needed to get back to the city to go to work. He offered to have his driver drop her off, and without thinking twice, she accepted. When they exited the main gate and drove down the road, no cars were there. After work she came back to her apartment. The entire night and morning had been such a dream that has been completely disconnected from reality. She came back to Earth in an abrupt fall when she found herself in front of her roommate. "So? Where's my car? And what was so urgent that you needed it so desperately?" he asked impatiently. Oh no. She had completely forgotten about his car. She didn't see it when leaving the estate, it had probably been stolen. Oh no. "So... He's really charming, I think he might be the one," she said innocently. And then proceeded to recount the entire night in more details than her roommate would have wanted. "Let me get this straight. You are telling me that you took my car and lost it, only to go get laid? This was your big emergency?" he cried in disbelief. And that was the moment he finally understood what it had cost him.
